Summary

Why do we keep failing with such brio as far as environmental policy is concerned and how can we get out of this deadly spiral? This book sheds light on the impossible challenge posed by biodiversity governance, conceived as a global political issue. It recounts the part played by the concept of biodiversity and the conservation sciences in the ideological confrontation of the 1980s. The book shows how the management of biodiversity is deprived of its ecological dimension and defends several positions dismissing this managerial model of the ecological crisis.
